The final rule passed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) has paved the way for the replacement of the traditional sustainable growth rate formula with a new quality payment program.
To help providers better understand how the rule will affect them as the system makes its transition over the new few years, CMS recently launched a website breaking down the technical details of the new payment models. The website also functions as a portal for further interaction with providers. It states the following:
We’re working together towards a big goal, so we’re starting slow. We are listening and want your input on how to improve the Quality Payment Program. As the program grows, so does the possibility to be rewarded for providing better care. These kinds of smarter payments give you more time to spend with your patients and to care for them in the way you think is best.
The site will be updated as the program evolves. The transition begins in 2017, with full implementation going into effect in 2019. For additional coverage of MACRA, see our prior post on 10 things to know about the ruling.
