Nurse practitioners are in higher demand than physicians in many areas of the United States, according to a recent article in Forbes.
Drawing on data from Merritt Hawkins, the piece highlights how nurse practitioners are among the five most-searched queries in terms of hiring health professionals, ahead of physicians. In 22 states new laws are in place that expand nurse practitioners’ practice authority. That means that more people have direct access to high-quality primary care, whether at outpatient clinics, urgent care centers or other practices.
Senior vice president of Merritt Hawkins, Travis Singleton, spoke to the importance of nurse practitioners to the future of health care:
Nurse practitioners and other allied health professionals are going to be a major part of our healthcare delivery systems, especially with population health and team-based care. You look at healthcare delivery networks that are shifting before our very eyes.
